OKRoads -- Bayous & Blues Roadtrip -- Interstate 40 Oklahoma

Almost spanning the United States from coast-to-coast, Interstate 40 begins in Barstow, California and makes its way through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina on its over 2500-mile long journey. On the final day of the Bayous & Blues Roadtrip, I drove Interstate 40 from West Memphis, Arkansas, to Interstate 240 in southeast Oklahoma City.

	Interstate 40 West at Exit 291 - OK 10 North - Gore/ Carille Rd.
	Interstate 40 West as it prepares to cross the Arkansas River. This bridge collapsed May 26, 2002, after a barge traveling upstream hit a bridge support, causing a 500-foot section of the bridge to collapse into the river and sending 14 people to their untimely death. The collapse caused interstate traffic to be rerouted on 2-lane roads for 2 1/2 months while the bridge was being rebuilt. The bridge reopened to traffic in August 2002.

	Interstate 40 West at Exit 200 - OK 99 - Prague/ Seminole. U.S. 377 is also accessed from this exit and is mentioned on advance signage, but the exit sign makes no mention of it. The overpass was in the process of being widened to four lanes at this time. That project has since been completed.

	Yet another sign telling OK 3 travelers to use Interstate 240 West. OK 3 is Oklahoma's longest state highway, spanning over 600 miles from the panhandle to Idabel in southeast Oklahoma.
