Interstate 140 Tennessee

Interstate 140 currently connects Interstate 40/Interstate 75 in Farragut to Tennessee Secondary 33 in Alcoa. Future plans call for the interstate to be extended further to the southeast to U.S. 321 east of Maryville.

Note: At the time these photos were taken, Interstate 140 had not been extended to Tennessee Secondary 33. The latest official Tennessee map has this section as being complete, but a quick Internet search does not reveal if it has yet been completed or not. Also, many of these pictures are not the best in the world, but we can thank the early morning cloudiness and fog for that...

Interstate 140 East at Interstate 40/Interstate 75 - Nashville/Knoxville/Chattanooga. Use Interstate 40 West to Nashville, Interstate 40 East/Interstate 75 North to Knoxville, and Interstate 75 South to Chattanooga. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Two lanes are allocated for the connection between Interstate 140 East and Interstate 40 East/Interstate 75 North. The ramp setup is a bit unusual, as it heads beneath Interstate 140, travels through the northeast quadrant of the interchange, then travels over Interstate 40 East/Interstate 75 North and merges into the right lanes. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
The overpass pictured here carries Interstate 140 traffic over the ramp connecting Interstate 140 East to Interstate 40 East and Interstate 75 North. The ramp connecting westbound Interstate 40/southbound Interstate 75 to northbound Tennessee 162 is to the left of this ramp. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Interstate 140 is known as the Senator Carl O. Adella Jr. Memorial Highway. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Interstate 140 is more known, though, for being the Pellissippi Parkway. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Interstate 140 East at Exit 1B - U.S. 11 South/U.S. 70 West - Kingston Pike. Kingston Pike parallels Interstate 40 between Kingston and Knoxville. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Interstate 140 East at Exit 1A - U.S. 11 North/U.S. 70 East - Kingston Pike. The exit suffixes are reversed here. Normally Exit 1B would come after Exit 1A when heading eastbound. To put more confusion into the mix, the Interstate 40/Interstate 75 interchange is signed as Exits 1C-D on Interstate 140 westbound, with, you guessed it, Exit 1C (Interstate 40 East/Interstate 75 North) coming before Exit 1D (Interstate 40 West/Interstate 75 South). Interstate 140 East approaching Exit 5 - Tennessee Secondary 332 - 3/4 mile. The route provides an alternate way between Farragut and Knoxville and closely parallels the north shore of Fort Loudoun Lake, hence the street name, Northshore Drive. (Photo taken 7/6/05)

The speed limit falls even further to 55 due to the construction zone just past U.S. 129. The construction was due to the eastward extension of the freeway. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Interstate 140 East at Exit 11A - U.S. 129 South - Alcoa/Maryville. A seven mile drive separates Interstate 140 from Maryville, which is basically a southern suburb of Alcoa. Maryville, however, gets the distinction of being the Blount County seat. (Photo taken 7/6/05)

Interstate 140 West approaching Exit 1 - U.S. 11/U.S. 70 - 1 mile. Only one ramp is allocated from Interstate 140 westbound to Kingston Pike due to the limited distance between Interstate 40/Interstate 75 and Kingston Pike. (Photo taken 7/6/05)

Interstate Ends 1/2 mile sign as Interstate 140 West prepares to become Tennessee 162. The state highway connects Interstate 40, Interstate 75, and Interstate 140 to Tennessee 62 west and the city of Oak Ridge, famous for being the namesake of the music group The Oak Ridge Boys. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
It's hard to see them here, but small reassurance shields for the two interstates are present to point the way to Interstate 40 West and Interstate 75 South. (Photo taken 7/6/05)

Scenes Related to Interstate 140
Dutchtown Road west approaching Interstate 140 East. Despite the fact we are one mile north of Interstate 40/Interstate 75, Interstate 140 East is signed from Dutchtown Road. However, going westbound, Interstate 140 signage stops at Interstate 40/Interstate 75. (Photo taken 7/6/05)

Switching gears to the eastern terminus of Interstate 140, Cusick Road is seen here as it is about to go underneath the future Interstate 140. By now, the overpass may be carrying interstate traffic between U.S. 129 and Tennessee Secondary 33 on the east side of Alcoa. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
Cusick Road westbound approaching the turnoff to Interstate 140. It is assumed that the connection to the interstate will be eliminated with the completion of the extension. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
The road off to the right here is the connecting road between U.S. 129 and Cusick Road, marking the "eastern terminus" of Interstate 140. The entrance to the mobile home park seen above is to the left. There is no signage from Cusick Road westbound indicating that turning right here leads to Interstate 140. (Photo taken 7/6/05)
