INTERSTATE 240
Interstate 240 makes up the southern half of the Memphis beltway. It is signed north-south between Interstate 55 and Interstate 40, and east-west for the remainder of the route. The exit numbers begin at the eastern Interstate 40 junction and increase as one goes south, west, and north from there. Mile markers begin at 12 and end at 30. The first 12 miles make up the northern half of the beltway, and the whole beltway was originally planned to be signed as Interstate 240 before the Interstate 40 route inside the beltway was cancelled. Interstate 40 was routed along the northern half of the beltway.
