Interstate 35 is 218 miles long in Iowa. The highway runs parallel to U.S. 69 for all of its journey in the state. South of Des Moines, U.S. 69 runs east of the interstate; to the north, the reverse is true. Interstate 35 has a 15-mile duplex with Interstate 80 to the west and north of Des Moines.
