Interstate 55 connects New Orleans, Jackson, Memphis, St. Louis, Springfield, and Chicago. Most of the highway runs near the Mississippi River. The two cross paths twice; once in Memphis and the other in St. Louis.

Interstate 55 cuts through the southwest corner of Tennessee and is just 12 miles long. The highway exits from itself not once, but twice in those 12 miles; once at Interstate 240 and the other at U.S. 61/U.S. 64/U.S. 70/U.S. 79 (Crump Blvd.)
