DESERTS & MOUNTAINS TRIP
Interstate 40 Texas

Interstate 40 spans the nation, from the deserts of California, Arizona, and New Mexico, to the mountains of eastern Tennessee and North Carolina, and goes through Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas in between. I drove Interstate 40 West from Interstate 44 in Oklahoma City to its western end during the Deserts & Mountains Trip. On Day One, I drove from Oklahoma City to Albuquerque, New Mexico; on Day Two, I drove from Albuquerque to Kingman, Arizona; and on Day Three, I drove the interstate from Kingman to Barstow, California, which is the interstate's western end.

	Interstate 40 West at Exit 69B - Washington St./Amarillo College.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 69A - Crockett St.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 68B - Georgia St.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 68A - Julian Blvd./Paramount Blvd.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 67 - Western St./ Avondale St.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 66 - Bell St./ Wolflin Ave.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 65 - Coulter Dr.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 64 - Loop 335 - Soncy Rd./Helium Rd. Just past this interchange is the western end of Amarillo, marked by a fence. It is quite a sight to see all the commercial development stop at that fence.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 62 - Hope Rd. That's correct - this exit is just two miles west of the last exit.

	Interstate 40 West at Exit 37 - Business Loop I-40 West - Vega.

	Interstate 40 West at Exit 18 - FM 2858 - Gruhlkey Rd.
	Interstate 40 West at Exit 15. There was no sign at the exit, so the gore point was the next best thing. This is the only interchange between Exit 0 and Exit 18. There are even a few at-grade intersections along this stretch.
	Interstate 40 West at the Picnic Area. But who would want to picnic in the middle of the western Texas panhandle?
