DAY SIX SUMMARY
Wednesday, March 17, 2004

This day began with a sidetrip around the freeways of Phoenix. I saw most of the freeways in Arizona's largest city. Then I saw the Chicago Cubs lose to the Texas Rangers 6-1 in a game that Greg Maddux started for the Cubs, but allowed all six Texas runs in four innings. Sammy Sosa didn't do too well either, as he went 0-for-2 from what I saw of him. I missed his first at-bat because I was stuck in traffic and didn't get to the game until the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Day Six Trip Log:
Departed Motel 6 (Phoenix, AZ) - 8:28 AM; mile 60,338
Carl's Jr. (Phoenix, AZ) - Breakfast - 8:35-8:50 AM; mile 60,340
Surprise Stadium (Surprise, AZ) - Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers - 1:31-3:26 PM; mile 60,540
Phillips 66 (Sun City, AZ) - Gas - 3:44 PM; mile 60,545
Arrived Motel 6 (Phoenix, AZ) - 4:14 PM; mile 60,557

DAY SEVEN SUMMARY
Thursday, March 18, 2004

This was my final day in the Phoenix area. I began by driving AZ 143 and AZ 153 near Sky Harbor Airport. Then I headed west on Interstate 10 to Loop 303 and took that to Surprise, where I saw the fourth and final Spring Training game of the trip between the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals. Oakland won easily, 9-2, but the highlight was seeing Garth Brooks pinch hit in the bottom of the 8th for the Royals. He popped out to 2nd base, as usual, but it was still neat to see him play baseball in person, even though he isn't known for his baseball skill!

Following that game, I went to a local mall to eat dinner, then went to an NHL hockey game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Phoenix Coyotes. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Red Wings barely missed a goal as time expired in overtime. Overall, it was one of the greatest days of my life.

Day Seven Trip Log:
Departed Motel 6 (Phoenix, AZ) - 9:56 AM; mile 60,576
Surprise Stadium (Surprise, AZ) - Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals - 11:42 AM-4:04 PM; mile 60,669
Desert Sky Mall (Phoenix, AZ) - Dinner - 4:44-5:22 PM; mile 60,689
Glendale Arena (Glendale, AZ) - Detroit Red Wings vs. Phoenix Coyotes - 5:38-9:46 PM; mile 60,695
Arrived Motel 6 (Phoenix, AZ) - 10:31 PM; mile 60,719
