FLORIDA TRIP
Interstate 10 Louisiana

Transcontinental Interstate 10 serves the southern half of the country. Beginning at CA 1 in Santa Monica, California, Interstate 10 goes through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. It goes through many major cities, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola, and Jacksonville, where the interstate ends at Interstate 95. On Day Three of the Florida Trip, I drove Interstate 10 from Interstate 49 in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Pensacola, Florida, and on Day Four, I drove Interstate 10 from Pensacola to Interstate 75 near Lake City, Florida.

Interstate 49 to Mississippi State Line
Pictures taken December 13, 2003

Interstate 10 East at Exit 103B - Interstate 49/
U.S. 167 North - Opelousas.
Interstate 10 East at unmarked Exit 105 -
Louisiana Ave. This interchange was
built in 2003, and at the time I took this
picture, Louisiana Ave. was incomplete
except for this interchange.
Interstate 10 East at Exit 109 - LA 328 -
Breaux Bridge.
Interstate 10 East at Exit 115 - LA 347 -
Cecilia/Henderson.
Interstate 10 East at the beginning of the
Atchafalaya Swamp Freeway. For about
15 miles, this viaduct carries Interstate 10
traffic over swamplands. The speed limit
is 60 during this stretch, but nobody goes
that speed.
After crossing the Atchafalaya swamp, the
highway goes over the Henderson Swamp,
as this sign tells motorists.

Rose.
Interstate 10 East at Exit 127 - LA 975 -
Whiskey Bay.
Interstate 10 East at Exit 135 - LA 3000.
Okay, so this is a blank sign gantry. But
the exit ramp is for LA 3000. This marks
the eastern end of the viaduct, and one
may now go 70 mph legally, even though
other motorists have probably been going
about 90 mph.
